IRC and "BitchX??"

IRC and "BitchX??"

am 18.09.2006 22:35:30 von Hal

Greetings; been reading and studying Internet Relay Chat and think I
have a basic knowledge about it but one problem escapes me that
several tutorials, FAQ', readme's and books haven't mentioned yet.
www.irchelp.org has several files but I see no mention of
"registering" anywhere, unless my eyes are worse than I thought..

With everything setup per the above and invoking BitchX; the bundled
Slackware, 2.4.29, IRC client, the status line reports:
" Nickname not registered yet."

For the life of me I can't seem to find out how, where, what, when
to "register" my selected nickname.. Am I missing something simple??

Invoking BitchX sans a server entry; the program scrolls thru many
irc server sites but nothing really happens because of that register
report.. At least /quit works... TIA..

Hello,

Registering is not related to the software you are using. IRC servers provi=
de=20
nick registering services so that you can password-protect your nick, and=20
other people won't be able to use it without your password. Also, some=20
networks allow only registered users to send private messages, and some=20
channels won't let unregistered users join, in an effort to help to prevent=
=20
spam.

I hope this helps a bit=20
