Live Mail ate my hotmail address
Man claims loss after 30 years
By Tony Dennis: Saturday 16 September 2006, 12:32
AN IRATE INQ reader is claiming that he has lost the hotmail address
he's been using for over 30 years thanks to signing up to Windows Live
Beta Mail. And he's furious.
"The system stinks," he claims. "It lets you log in with your Hotmail
id, and works fine, but if you try it again the next day, it then comes
up and says your email is not valid."
This is a hard bug for the INQ to replicate as the terms and conditions
of the Beta specifically prevent journalists from writing about their
experiences.
Our informant complains that the system lets users request a new id,
but won't accept your old one.
There's a possibility he's getting confused with Windows Live Spaces
which requires a specific Windows Live ID which can be created via
Hotmail but won't let you use an existing hotmail address to post
messages on Live Spaces. Why is that, one wonders?
Anyway, the INQ also feels our informant is exaggerating somewhat.
Hotmail wasn't founded until 1995 and although it merger with MSN in
1997, MSN itself started in 1995 too. So his email address is, what, 11
years old max? =B5
