Pine not rendering html
am 02.10.2006 02:35:55 von Alan Clifford
Pine, v. 4.60 rendered the message below as html source rather than
displaying the formatted message. There is a content type in the header.
Any Pine expert out there who can explain so I can inform the originator
of their error and which standard they haven't conformed to?
(There is a password in there but I have changed it on the website).

Correct. Pine is behaving correctly.
> There is a content type in the header.
However, there's no MIME-Version. A message MUST have a MIME-Version
header in order to be interpreted as MIME (RFC 2045, section 4).
Therefore, any Content-Type header line in the message header is to be
interpreted according to RFC 1049 (the pre-MIME definition of the
Content-Type header) and not MIME. The Content-Type header in that
message doesn't parse meaningfully as RFC 1049 (and Pine doesn't implement
RFC 1049 anyway), so the message is just a plaintext message.
The current release version of UW imapd has, and Alpine (the successor to
Pine) will have, a feature that if it sees a Content-Transfer-Encoding
header (which is unique to MIME), it will interpret any Content-Type
headers as MIME even though there is no MIME-Version header. It's not
clear that this is a good idea, as it seems that most of the malformed
messages are spam and not legitimate email. However, at least you will
get a warning diagnostic when this kludge is triggered.

Thanks for the information. I passed it on to the originators of the email
but they haven't responded.

Be nice if you would use a proper delimeter line "-- " with your
sig.
That allows those of us who don't want to be distracted by
signatures to configure our newsreaders to hide them.
This functionality is built into all good newsreaders because
the Netiquette demands it.
Do you imagine that you are above the Netiquette? If so, why?
I've asked you this many times over the last few years, and
am still waiting for an answer.
Sigs without proper delimiters are intrusive. Like popups.
I read this group to learn about email, not to see the latest
cutesy pablum some bored academic snot thinks that I can't live
without experiencing.

This is a MIME GnuPG-signed message. If you see this text, it means that
your E-mail or Usenet software does not support MIME signed messages.
The Internet standard for MIME PGP messages, RFC 2015, was published in 1996.
To open this message correctly you will need to install E-mail or Usenet
software that supports modern Internet standards.

Nobody asked you, Beavis.

Yes, and we'll have more time to read all your exploits with various farm

Right.

Yup.

Because your tribe thought it would make you smarter?

It's not his fault, Beavis, that you are too stupid to understand it.
> Sigs without proper delimiters are intrusive. Like popups.
So sue him, Beavis. Prove to the rest of the world that you're not just a
harmless little kookbag, but can actually do something more that whistle
through your ass, on Usenet.
Stupid Beavis. So impotent. Can't do anything more than posting
belligerent kookfarts to usenet.

You haven't learned anything, and you can't learn anything. You're too
stupid to meet the minimum level of intelligence required to understand
posts on this newsfroup.
