What are recomended for use when you set up a VPN connection? IPSec or
L2TP/PPTP?
Are there any benefits by using a vendor suplied VPN client instead of the
one builtin XP?
/A.

Other vpn clients might also have functions such as:
- central configuration. Including packaging, config updates, roll out,
etc.
- personal (host based) firewall for the vpn based pc
- vpn connection through SSL. This makes the connectivity easier if the
client is behind other networking firewalls / proxy servers
- More encryption protocols to choose from if you want special performance,
cpu utilization, n bit encryption on protocol Y, etc
- Multiple Entry Point configuration (several redundant vpn gatways at
different networks/ISPs serving one vpn)
- Check that the local AV is installed and up to date
- Validate patch level of local OS
- etc, etc....
Clientless SSL vpn is a very popular buzzword nowadays. There's really
no such thing as a real "clientless" vpn. It's really some software
written in java/activeX that puts a vpn client down on your pc. It might
however still make things eaiser things for you.
