Merging mail locations in Linux

Merging mail locations in Linux

am 05.10.2006 19:53:10 von grpprod

Hi all,

as usual, in my Linux box, I use sendmail, qpopper and uw-imap.
Incoming mail for my users is stored in /var/mail, and it is accessed
normally with QPOPPER. The rest folders (eg the ones created by
UW-IMAP) are created inside the user's home directory (eg
/home/user/mail/sent-mail). I was wondering if there is a way that also
the incoming mail to be delivered inside the home directory, and still
be accessed by qpopper. uw-imap.

I don't know for sure about qpopper, but it may permit the INBOX to be a
file called "mbox" in the user's home directory. UW imapd (and UW ipop3d)
both will use mbox if that file exists.

Thank you,
two questions:

1. Does ipop3d run in SSL mode (port 995)?
2. Any way to make sendmail deliver mails like this?
(/home/user/mail/mbox instead of /var/mail/user).

That's easy enough.

You are certainly no newbie. Why are you using google groups
like a newbie?

Yes. ipop3d supports TLS as well.

That's done by whatever you set up in the Mlocal rule in sendmail.cf. I
hesitate to give specific recommendations since I don't know the details
of your environment.

However, most of the tools that people invoke from Mlocal have a
capability to write to ~/mbox. I know that the tmail and dmail tools in
the UW IMAP package do so, and I am pretty sure that procmail does as
well. I suggest checking the man page for the tool that you use to see if
there's some obvious configuration setting; and if you use dmail and/or
tmail I'll tell you how it's done in those tools.

The Internet standard for MIME PGP messages, RFC 2015, was published in 1996.
To open this message correctly you will need to install E-mail or Usenet
software that supports modern Internet standards.

Notice that Beavis does not tell you how, because he does not really know
the answer, he just wants to kookfart.

Which is probably for the best. Remember that the golden rule of
comp.mail.misc is whatever technical advice Beavis gives, the correct answer
always lies 180 degrees to the opposite.

Because you're the Usenet Beavis.
