can"t successfully make an ODBC connection!

I am new to mySql so maybe I am missing something, but I cannot =
successfully create an ODBC connection which I must have to work with =
the MySql database in Crystal Reports. I keep getting an Access Denied =
for user 'ODBC'@'localhost' (using password: NO)
I do not have a problem using the mySql command line to start up mySql =
and use my database. So why can't it connect via ODBC? Using the =
command line I do not have to specify any userid or passwords. It =
begins by prompting for a password and I simply hit enter without a =
typing any password.

Anywhere to look? I have been exhaustively through the manual and =
haven't gained any ground. I would be most appreciative of your help.

I'm not sure about that 'exhaustive' search through the manual - perhaps
your manual is missing a chapter or 2? But anyway since the user
administration section of MySQL Administrator are currently broken, here
are some links in the documentation for setting up authentication the
old-fashioned way:
