Top NY newspaper is seeking a candidate who is confident about building
and extending a personalization platform for xxxx.com, a site with an
unparalleled combination of scale and complexity. You have extensive
experience programming in a UNIX/Linux environment. The ideal candidate
is a self starter who will pick up programming tasks and run with them,
collaborating in a team environment with buy in, and checkpoints to
ensure diverse perspectives to the work.
Responsibilities include the following:
=B7 Developing key Javascript components for an AJAX platform
=B7 Considering client, protocol, server, and security issues during
development
=B7 Contributing creative ideas toward solving platform issues as they
crop up
=B7 Designing reusable, object-oriented code that can be redeployed
=B7 Ensuring AJAX client robustness through formal unit and performance
testing
Necessary skills include the following:
=B7 B.S./B.A. in Computer Science, or a degree in a related field plus
Computer Science coursework, or equivalent experience
=B7 Over 6 years Web development work experience
=B7 Javascript on all major browsers and platforms (IE5-7, Mozilla,
Safari, Opera)
=B7 JavaScript/AJAX: Extensive experience developing professional,
cross-browser AJAX based functionality. Strong knowledge of DOM
manipulation and working with JSON and XML document types, some
knowledge of CSS.
=B7 Object-oriented design with Javascript, including closures, design
patterns, memory management, event handlers, and JSON
=B7 Experience with XML, XML-RPC, and XSLT
=B7 PHP: Experience with application development in PHP, including
database access, regular expressions, text parsing, validation rules,
and security.
=B7 Experience working as part of a team
=B7 Strong verbal and written communication skills
Desired skills include the following:
=B7 Formal software development methodology
=B7 Experience writing shared and reusable components of code
=B7 Experience designing and tuning applications that can scale
=B7 Some background in a structured programming language, such as Java
or C/C++
=B7 Use of source control
=B7 UNIX/Linux: Proficiency as a system user and light administration
skills.
=B7 MySQL experience desired
