external mail server for web host

external mail server for web host

am 19.10.2006 08:20:30 von ryanf

Hello, I want to send more emails than my host allows. is there a way
that I can have another email server on another host that I can send
all of my emails through? My script is that sends the emails out is
written in php if that matters. I would wantmy emails to look like
they are from my domain name on my original server is that is possible.

Any ideas or places to start looking into this more?

Ok, I am not a spammer, I have an application that sends our customers
their data in an email attachment. We are looking at new servers to
host the application but one of the limiting factors seems to be the
email.

Of course you're not. Please ignore mindless ranting from the Usenet
Beavis. He has issues.

A simple Google search will find you hundreds of providers of "virtual
private server"s, which can be as cheap as $4/m.

You'll have, essentially, an entire server all to yourself. You own it, you
do whatever you want with it -- install a mail server and/or a mailing list
manager -- but you probably won't need to, just have the provider initialize
your virtual server with a stock load of Fedora, CentOS, or Debian, which
all include sendmail or Postfix, and mailman. As long as you limit your
total bandwidth to what you bought, send as many E-mails as you want.

I know that I could have a virtual server to myself and that would
eliminate the mail problem, but I like the way my current host is set
up as they are clustered and that has its bonuses. What I am asking is
if there is a way I can get another mail server that my web server
connects to, to do the emails. Also this email server could be used
for multiple applications to send emails if possible.

Can this be done?

Like I said: set up a virtual private server, and install whatever software
you want to be used by your web server. Your web server can connect to your
private server and the two can dance together. Whatever.

Thanks I will give it a shot.
