Wireless has stopped IIS serving

Wireless has stopped IIS serving

am 02.02.2007 03:34:05 von PW

Hi,

I just installed a Netgear wireless modem router on my Windows XP Prof
computer. Also installed the Netgear wireless USB adapter on my wifes
computer so she can get on the internet.

Now whenever I try to view my websites I get this message ...
404 Not Found
File not found.

I use a DNS service called "DNS4me" so I can access my websites from
anywhere.

What could be causing this problem?

TIA,
PW

Routers are not usually installed on workstations. Normal setup with be:

Net -> Cable/DSL modem -> router -> switch -> workstations

Note: Most NAT routers usually have a 4-port builtin switch.

Please confirm your setup.

It sounds like your computer used to be directly connected to the
Internet and DNS4me was hardwired to that IP.

Now it sounds like your wireless router is directly connected to the
Internet and your computers indirectly connect to the Internet through
the router.

If so, that's causing your issue.

DNS4me has a hardwired IP that ends at the wireless router since
that's what is directly connected to the Internet. However, the
wireless router is not configured to send those requests to your
computer behind the router. Hence you see "file not found".

You're going to have to configure the wireless router to "forward"
port 80 requests to your computer's internal IP. How to do this is
specific to each router -- please read product documentation to
determine the correct steps.

Hi David,

You are correct. Unfortunately all the Netgear online support =
information is highly misleading. Whilst you need to add a "port =
forwarding" instruction to the router to handle the HTTP requests from =
an external source, all the online documentation shows you screen shots =
of a port forwarding screen which does not appear to exist. In the end =
I had to go to the configuration software to a screen called "services" =
and add a custom service. Then go to "firewall rules" and in the =
"inbound services" click the add button, select the service you just =
added in services, select "allow always", give it the LAN IP address of =
192.168.0.2 (not 192.168.0.1). Then click apply.

That resolved the issue. Kudos to the Netgear telephone support line =
for talking me through this problem.

Thanks,
PW

Glad to see a resolution to your issue. At least NetGear came up with
a solution for you even if not immediately obvious...
