Is the Message-ID value case sensitive?

As stated in the subject line, is the Message-ID value case sensitive?

I've always treated it as so but a customer's MTA is converting the value to
lower case and causing a processing problem.

I've been unable to find a definitive answer from RFC822 or 1036.

Any help would be appreciated.
