ASAP: Need ASP reseller hosting
am 14.04.2007 02:36:42 von Pupkin
Hi,
I've had a bit of a crash today and need to re-locate 35+ web sites this
weekend.
Basically, I'm not interested in server management, and it's caught up
with me twice now. It's time for a new scenario.
Anyone know of a good hosting reseller company that will give me a bunch
of space to set-up multiple web sites supporting ASP and MSSQL?
I don't even need DNS or Email, as I already handle those through
different providers. Just the web space and databases.
Thanks.

I use www.domainsmadeeasy.com, it's pretty good. I get 5GB storage, 250,000
MB of bandwidth, 1 SQL Server 2000 database, 10 MySql databases, ASP, .NET,
FrontPage extensions (not that I would ever use them), custom 404
capabilities, domain aliases, DNS, some mail-related stuff... etc.
No setup fee, they charge me $3.99/month -- a hell of a value, compared to
running my own server and paying for a commercial Internet connection (as I
used to do.) And I don't have to admin a server, a firewall, nor do I have
to stave-off spammer scumbags trying to use my MTA to relay gay child porno!
There are only a couple of minor things I think they could improve, one is
that it gives me no clue how much space I'm using, I've got bandwidth
consumption reports, but to figure out how much storage I've consumed, I
have to go into each directory via FTP, select all the files, and add the
totals for each directory.
The condition above might well be improved if I complete configuration of
the stats feature, which brings me to my second minor issue: Some of their
password policies can tend to be annoying, like each module (DNS, EMail Acct
Mgr, Web Hosting Mgr, etc) has its own separate credentials storage, and if
you don't set them all the same, it will drive you crazy. The modules pass
your credentials under the covers when you navigate between them -- useless
unless they all match. Worse than useless, actually because they have a
fairly low lockout threshold, and lockouts don't expire on their own, you
have to contact admin to have them removed!
In any case, I haven't had any problems in several months, so either it has
improved, I have acclimated, or both... but it's still a little irritating
that the stats module has more restrictive password complexity rules than
any of the others. Wouldn't you know,
I chose to set it up last. :-)
Still, over-all, for my money I gotta say they're definitely net-positive.
Good Luck,
Mark
