Tool for converting Access Queries & Forms to ASP for Web ?
Tool for converting Access Queries & Forms to ASP for Web ?
am 25.04.2007 16:09:32 von MyEmailList
Is there a tool for converting Microsoft Access Queries & Forms to
ASP
so you can put it on the web?
We have an Access database with a half dozen tables, plus a number of
queries and forms.
Some of the forms have sub-forms and are quite complicated.
Must we create all these queries and Forms from scratch to port it to
ASP and put it on the web?
If not... are there other alternatives?
Thanks for any comments & suggeestions.

Again. No.
There really was no need to multipost this. We all saw it the first time
you posted it to .general
I'm sorry you did not like my answer, but there it is.

Bob,
1 - I posted here after I did not get an answer on the other news
group. I waited 24 hours or so. Actually my post didn't even show on
the newsgroup until today (Thursday() and I think I posted it on
Tuesday afternoon.
2 - I had no idea that you were active on both groups. I just
discovered this one. I haven't done ASP in a long time and wasn't even
sure which newsgroup was the proper one to post on.
And... Gee Whiz... why all the emotion ? Take a deep breath, please.
No one has any ill intent here... and thes online forums/groups are
great places for people with like interest to chat and share knowledge
in a friendly and helpful manor... aren't they?
I'm sure you were just having a bad day so I won't take it personal...
and I sincerely thank you for the information and your kind assistance
and hope that you will be generious enough to continue to offer me
tips as I struggle through this project... I'll need it.

I'm not sure what emotion you are attributing to me. I was not having a
bad day: it does not take a bad day to motivate me to give advice to
people. I made that post to advise you of the proper netiquette, not to
chastise or put you on the defensive.
Of all the points you cited in your defense, the only semi-valid one was
where you stated that you had not even seen your initial post after 24
hours. I'm not sure why this was so (your post had two replies within
two hours of its posting, one of which came from me), but the proper
action at this point would have been to repeat your post in the same
newsgroup, along with (and this is important) an explanation for why you
were repeating the post. It is never a good idea to post the same
message to another newsgroup without first ascertaining that you chose
the wrong newsgroup for your initial post This is called "multiposting"
and it is analogous to running into room A, shouting a question and,
before receiving a reply, running into room B to shout it again. This is
bad, both for you, who now has to run back and forth between the two
rooms to see if anyone has provided an answer, but also for the room
occupants, who may waste their time providing an answer for a problem
that has already been solved in the other room. They may become
sufficiently annoyed at you so as to ignore any subsequent questions
from you. That is what I was trying to help you avoid.
It is always a good idea to browse through recent posts in a newsgroup
before making a post. In addition to the chance that doing so might
allow you to find the answer to your question without posting, this will
also give you the chance to see who provides answers in the group, thus
allowing you to see that most of us provide answers in both asp.db and
asp.general. Again, this is not meant as a chastisement, so there is no
need to either apologize or get defensive.

Bob,
Not apologizing or defensive.
Thanks for your comments.
I guess I equate different groups to different people... and asking
two (or three) different groups of people the same question assures
one a good selection of possible solutions and explanations.
I guess this doesn't work so well if the members of group one also are
the members of group two, etc... in which case you probably really
only have one group :)
Just a difference in philosophy I guess.
Best,
Mel

Crosspost instead of multiposting: send a single message with a list of
the desired newsgroups in the To header. That way a single conversation
takes place and responders don't waste time providing unneeded
responses.

I wasn't aware of "crossposting" - thanks for the tip.
But educate me... what is the difference in that and multiposting?
Is it that each replay is posted on each newsgroup... regardless of
which group they use to replay?
Does this require a special newsreader?
I've always used Microsoft Outlook Express Newsreader but our isp at
the office seems to have problems with Newsgroups... actually told us
they didn't guarntee newsgroup access... so I've been using Google
Groups to Post & Read... and I have to say it does make it quite easy.
Thanks,
Mel

Yes. With a crosspost, replies appear in all the crossposted groups,
ensuring a single conversation, and mitigating the chance of duplicate
responses.

No

With OE, just use semicolons to delimit the group list

I am not familiar with using GG, but I doubt it can be termed a
newsreader if it does not provide the ability to crosspost. If GG does
not give you the ability to crosspost, I strongly recommend picking a
single group to post a question to, only moving to another group if
advised to, and prefacing the multipost with an explanation of why you
are multiposting. This shows consideration for the people taking the
time out of their days to reply to your questions.
