....you mean like what the 'Europeans' tried to do to the Americas
(successfully, I might add) and Africa (unsuccessfully)? In our culture,
perhaps they would be called 'missionaries'. :/... and don't tell me that
christian forces in the Americas or Africa didn't slaughter innocent
bystanders... :/
It's simple people... blind faith leads to blind atrocities... simple as
that. Any 'ism' is bad, taken to extremes, our culture included.
....yet more evidence that what is good for the goose isn't good for the
gander.
What makes our 'belief' any better than anybody else's? Our own culture has
a long, long history of similar treatment of other peoples different from
our own. Witness (for just one example), slavery... the economic powerhouse
that built the (southern parts at least) of USA. Or, for another.... the
Spanish Inquisition. Or, yet another... the Crusades of Richard III...
Where I come from, the number of people born 'catholic' is increasing. Does
this mean that catholocism (small C) is a bad thing? By our standards, of
course not. What if the Jews increased their number? Would that be bad? If
we have a standard, it must be applied without predjudice.
It's only when folks follow their faith blindly that bad things happen.
There is nothing inherently wrong with being Muslim. Islamic values are very
similar to our own, christian values.
If you follow the line that Islam is a 'bad' thing, then you must also
accept that Christianity is a 'bad' thing. It's *extremism* that is the bad
thing, not the faith.
Don't get me wrong... I don't support the imposition of anybody's will over
anybody else. It just appears to me that there is a lack of clarity over
what is 'right' or 'wrong' lately...
Sad... History has taught us nothing.

I read an article indicating that millions of Muslims now live in Spain
and their end goal is to take over that country without having to kill
anyone. Once over 50 per cent of the population of Spain are Muslims, they
will be able to vote into office fellow Muslims. It may take about 20 or
more years but it's my guess that they will eventually have total control
over Spain. They plan to do the same thing in various other countries.
They already have taken over a country in Africa called the Sudan. They
used a different plan in Sudan. They have killed about a million of the
black people in the Sudan and forced millions of other black people in the
Sudan to leave the country. I have never heard any of the leaders of black
people in America even mention what is going on the Sudan.

Well, Muslim people built much of it, so why not?

Yeah, dreadful stuff this democracy.

You write as if you've only just heard of Sudan. You're quite right,
but a bit behind the times. Muslim people took Sudan over about 500
years ago.

You appear to be talking about the genocide in Darfur that's been
going on for the last few years. What does genocide committed by one
supposedly Muslim ethnic group against other Muslim ethnic groups have
to do with Muslims "taking over" a country?
> I have never heard any of the leaders of black

Then you need to wash your ears out and listen. I can't imagine how
you've failed to hear them.

I somehow think that this would take more than 20 years. Spain's Muslim
population now stands at about 3%. Whatsmore, Spain's immigration rate is
the highest in Europe, with almost half a million immigrants arriving each
year. The majority of these immigrants come from Latin America and the EU.
Whatsmore, the Spain is a monarchy. The King of Spain retains the right to
veto any act of parliament; or to dissolve parliament and call a new
election. The royal family, being Catholics, would likely object to the
establishment of Islam as an official state religion.
That said, Muslims have just as much right to "total control over Spain" as
anyone else does -- particularly taking into account the fact that they
ruled over Spain for hundreds of years before being driven out by the
Christian kingdoms of Castille and Aragon. If you visit Spain, you can
still see many of the Moorish (Islamic) palaces -- I particularly recommend
visiting AljaferÃa in Zaragoza.

Assuming you're writing about the current Darfur conflict, I think you're
misunderstanding the motivations behind it.
Firstly, it is not (primarily) religiously motivated. Islam has been a
popular religion in the Sudan for nearly 700 years -- it's nothing new.
The current conflict is between Arab Muslims and Black African Muslims. If
the Muslims in Sudan wished to strengthen their position, they'd surely be
attacking the southern areas of Sudan, where the majority of the country's
non-Muslim population live -- they wouldn't be attacking fellow Muslims.
Although the conflict appears to have some racial motivation too, the main
reason for the current conflict is that Darfur, an area in the west of the
Sudan wants partial, or even total independence. This is because the people
of Darfur view the Sudanese government as being economically neglectful of
the region.
"About a million of the black people" have not been killed -- the number is
probably closer to 300,000. (Nonetheless that is 300,000 too many!)

Except of course that when the monarchy was restored there, it was as
a figurehead. All the European monarchies are.

That depends very much on your definition of "figurehead". Although it is
true that modern European monarchs very rarely *use* their powers as heads
of state, they do still *have* these powers.
Many of those with written constitutions, including Spain, have the powers
of the monarch officially written into the constitution. In Spain, the
powers mentioned above are the King's constitutional rights.
As it happens, Juan Carlos I, the current King of Spain, has been far more
active in politics than a European monarch would typically be. He was
heavily involved in writing Spain's current constitution, and during the
late 1970s and early 1980s, steered the Spanish political process during
its difficult transition from Franco's dictatorship to the modern democracy
it now is. He was widely credited with thwarting the 1981 military coup
against the elected government.

You'd better believe it! (Or else he'll kick your arse.)

Take it elsewhere.

No. Most Americans don't understand the power of precedent.
The Prime Minister (literally "first adviser") has the actual power,
which he derives from parliament. They advise the monarch, who signs
the decisions of parliament into law.
For example in the UK there were three revolutions, and each time the
monarch's power was reduced. Culminating in the Glorious Revolution
where William of Orange was made King under strict conditions of what
the monarchy could or couldn't do.
>Many of those with written constitutions, including Spain, have the powers

And he'll be deposed if he ever tries to use them.

As for TI's contribution, it was clearly the most knowledgeable,
well written and intelligent of all and you would be silly to kf
him.
Allow me to offer myself for killfiling, you sound like you need
more inmates. It would suit me quite well as I am making a tour
and comparative study of killfiles (so far, good old BdeZ's was
the very best for conditions, Ed Seedhouses's the meanest and
barest).
