Text too long (addendum)
am 03.05.2007 21:52:20 von Adrian GreemanI enquired yesterday about a problem putting a long article into a
mediumtext column.
I thought medium text would allow plenty of space but keep getting the error
that the test is too long. The same happened even when I changed it to
longtext.
As a supplement to my inquiry - I have set up another test table this time
MyIsam instead of the InnoDB the other one used.
It works fine allowing me to insert the big article into a medium text
defined column.
But I don't understand why. I read on the MySQL manual that Innodb has a
row limit of 65000 bytes. I think it is a factor but it does not apply to
text columns. The only limits I could see for those were so huge (4GB for
longtext eg) that it did not seem to be an issue with even a fairly long
magazine article of the kind I want to store.
But I am not sure I am reading the manual correctly or perhaps do not
understand it well.
Any helpful explanations? (I assume that MyIsam will be just as good for my
purposes (storing magazine articles)
And actually it may be better as InnoDB does not do fulltext searches I
gather. But I would like to know the answer.)
Win XP SP2 MySQL 5.0.37 Apache 1.3 phpmyadmin 2.10.1 php 5
Thanks
Adrian
