Hi,
I am a university student of computer science. In some weeks I am
suppose to hold a seminarium on a topic in computer science, was
thinking on NIDS (network intrusion detection system) but dont now
much about it - can some can direct me to some greate sources?
Maybe someone now of any other interesting topic - please tell me!

Wow... in my younger days, I'd be pulling out the flame-thrower for
the trolls.. but I digress....
www.google.com - search for what you are interested in...
ACID, BaSE, Snort, are just the TIP of the iceberg....
Honestly, I don't think weeks is enough time to cover something as
deep as NIDS... and of course, you can't speak of NIDS without
mentioning NIPS, but if you even start into those, you have to speak
of Nessus, ISS, CoreImpact, and a handful of other suites that you'll
need to fully encompass the topic....
Just give me your notes and I'll do it... :-) jk...

www.google.com - never heard of it, what is that? some sort of web
guru? ;)
My real problem is that I dont have enought basic knowlege of the
topic to perform a search, but Snort sounds like an interesting app.

Sorry, it's monday....
I like the get info, read info, ask more questions idea as opposed to
ask questions, get info, read info process... different strokes....
Read, research, and then read what you research....
Penetration Testing, Vulnerability Scanner, Intrusion Prevention vs
Intrusion Detection = should all give good google results....
I'm a smartass, so excuse me when I say, get more info and you'll ask
better questions.... ask better questions, and you'll get more/better
responses.... You are already in a great place to ask questions, so
when you have a question, there are ppl here WAY smarter than me, I'm
just the one who's not really working hard, just surfing the net....
which is why I rang in....
