Being a LINUX Nut, and a SYSADMIN for a Novell Shop, this was disturbing
. It seems Microsoft is so worried about the OPEN SOURCE software
movement, they Bribed Novell (Marketers of SUSE LINUX) to sign an
agreement. This is to say they will not sue licensed users of SUSE
Linux, when MS decides that LINUX infringes on Software Patents that
Microsoft holds.
Microsoft, the 1000 Lb. Gorilla, is threatening to sue Linux
distributors, and end users for using Linux, if they can prove that
LINUX uses some Proprietary software that Microsoft incorporates. They
problem is, they will be suing their own potential customers, if they
entice people to come back to Microsoft.
I don't know about you, but I am not very friendly to someone who sues
me. This could backfire on MS, who is already in trouble with VISTA
being the P.O.S. that it is. Still, people, like lemmings, will
continue to buy this crap, simply because Microsoft spoon feeds it to
them (or rather crams it down their throat).
So Microsoft bought "VOUCHERS" (Server Certificates) from Novell, and is
selling those to it's customers. This is so you will not be sued when
you use SUSE LINUX, and Microsoft starts suing all those poor OPEN
SOURCE users. Ask SCO how well their suit against IBM has gone.
Anyways, that is a part of what this agreement is all about.
Dell now wants to get into the act.

Now I read where Torvalds is pushing it back to MS asking them to
prove what patents are being infringed upon... good move Linus...

MS is always making bad decisions, IMO... making promises they can't
keep, blaming others for not playing well, and then saying that
everyone else cheated off them...

I agree... which is why I'm a new linux advocate... "Linux, with so
many flavors, one is bound to tempt your tech buds..."=A9

It's not that they want to get in... they don't want to be on the
other side of it... the one's being sued...
It's just not a fair and level playing field anymore... now that MS
has the ability to challenge, thus keeping any 'hobbyist' to write
code that 'looks like' a function in a Windows product... even the
mere looking like is enough to be claimed as intellectual
property.... that's just crap....

Thanks for that... it was meant as an enlightenment, not a 'catchup'...
