How do I add a chat feature to my website?

I have been distributing freeware for several years from my website at
www.dcproof.com. I would like to know the best way to add a chat
feature to answer questions from users and potential users.

There are several free java and Flash based chat's available for you
to add to your site. I am sure that with a "fee" you can remove all
their branding on it.

Are you going to have someone man this chat? Why not use use AOL
Instant Messenger (or trillion, or any number of other commercial
chat's)?
