unable to open iis.msc

unable to open iis.msc

am 25.06.2007 16:10:48 von InNeedOfAssistance

Hi,

I have IIS running on a 2003 server with all webs running fine. My problem
is that I can't get the iis.msc to open. I first tried my short-cut which
just hung then I tried opening it via computer management - still hung. I
went to the system32\inetsrv directory and double clicked on iis.msc and
that hung too. Each time it hangs I need to end the process in task manager.
I've tried rebooting the server and have tried shutting it down.

Any ideas why this is happening and how I can fix it without rebuilding my
production server?

Is there any other way to access the iis snap-in that I should also try?

Many thanks for your help.

Rather -

1.

Close the Internet Information Services MMC

2.

Go to a command prompt on the IIS Server and change to the directory
%systemroot%\system32\inetsrv

3.

Type the following command and press Enter:

regsvr32 inetmgr.dll

The inetmgr.dll registered successfully but I still can't open it - nothing
happens. So I went to the first post about restoring the METABASE but that
also requires me to open the IIS manager which I can't do.

Any more suggestions?

Assuming you are logged in with permissions that are allowable on the source
server, connect remotely using a remote MMC - Add the snap-ins for IIS and
see if this works.

Then, make sure the IIS admin service is running.

Actually I did try that - sorry I forgot to mention. I get, "The remote
procedure call failed and did not execute"

I am also unable to open Share Point.

Would it be possible to uninstall a Windows component and reinstall it
without loosing all of my webs and their configurations?

I have backups of this server. Is there some specific item I could replace
to regain access to these items?

What would have caused this to happen?

I do have Comodo firewall installed. Could this be causing the block
somehow? I don't see any corresponding entries in the log though.
