Front Page Permissions Issue

Front Page Permissions Issue

We are currently having an issue with Front Page Permissions. We are using
Windows Server 2003, IIS 6, Front Page Extensions, and are using the Share
Point Admnistrator that installs with IIS 6/FP Extensions.

The problem is this. If I add a user to a Front Page Sub Web and grant them
author access, they cannot access the folder at all unless I add them to the
local administrators group. If I add them to the local administrators group,
then their access is way too open and bad things can and will happen from
there.

Here is an overview of the User Roles:
Web Design Rights
Author Pages - User can create, edit, or delete HTML pages and
directories.
Browse - User can browse pages in this Web site, including those with Web
bots.

Role Description
Administrator View, add, and change all server content; manage server
settings and accounts.
Advanced author View, add, and change pages, documents, themes, and
borders; recalculate hyperlinks.
Author View, add, and change pages and documents.
Contributor View pages and documents, view and contribute to
discussions.
Browser View pages and documents.

Here is an overview of the Author Role:

Web Design Rights
Author Pages - User can create, edit, or delete HTML pages and
directories.
Browse - User can browse pages in this Web site, including those with Web
bots.

Any folder permissions on a folder that is a Front Page Subweb are managed
ONLY using the Share Point Administrator that is installed along with Front
page Extensions.

It sounds like you may have altered the logon locally user right so that
the accounts to which you are granting authorship are not recognized
as having that right. In the default this right is granted to Users and
Users has as members Authenticated Users; and, in that scenario once
the account granted authorship has provided credentials and been
authenticate they are a Users member and hence have the needed
login right. If you have altered parts of that chain your situation may
be resolved by making sure that accounts to which you grant authorship
are members of the Users group (assuming that group still has login
rights).
