Generate a cert request with template in SBS2003

Generate a cert request with template in SBS2003

am 25.07.2007 16:43:38 von Anthony Smith

Good Morning Everyone,

I hope everyone is doing well today. We're running SBS2003 SP1 w/ISA 2004.
I am trying to generate a certificate request in IIS6 with the Wizard but it
doesn't allow me to specify a template to be used so I am getting the error:

The request contains no certificate template information. Denied by Policy
Module 0x....
The request does not contain a certificate template extension or the
Certificate Template request attribute.

When I go into the CA and try to import the request, I get the above error.
What is the proper way to generate a request in IIS 6 for SBS2003? I don't
want to use the CEICW for this. Or is there a way to temporarily TURN OFF
the requirement of a template with the CA?

Thanks!
Sincerely,
Anthony Smith

Thanks for the reply Cris.

I'm trying to make two certs a wildcard(*.mydomain.com) and an =
owa.mydomain.com cert. The request is made in IIS but when I submit the =
request to the CA it tells me it is missing a template. I don't see an =

the template and create the private key. The request is submitted fine =

export the key from the CA. I'm trying two different methods to get =
these two self signed certs but neither is working. =20
Either I can't submit the request if generated through IIS or once I get =
the Cert issued (through web interface localhost/certsrv) I can't export =
the private key. I can export it with the CA as Binary Certificate but =
no private key is exported. When I import that cert into the Personal =
storage then try to export from mmc/Certificates the option for Personal =
Information Exchange export is greyed out, only =
DER/Base-64/Cryptographic are available.

The only way I've been able to sucessfully make certs on this SBS is =
throught the CEICW. But I need a wildcard and the wizard won't let me do =
a *.mydomain.com.

Thanks for the reply =
Cris.

I'm trying to make two certs a=20
wildcard(*.mydomain.com) and an owa.mydomain.com cert.  The =
request is=20
made in IIS but when I submit the request to the CA it tells me it =
is=20
missing a template. I don't see an option for template when creating =
it=20
through the Wizard.

But if I try to generate the cert =
through=20
localhost/certsrv I can choose the template and create the private=20
key.  The request is submitted fine into the CA with this =
method, but=20
no private key is generated when I export the key from the CA.  =
I'm=20
trying two different methods to get these two self signed certs but =
neither=20
is working.

Either I can't submit the request =
if generated=20
through IIS or once I get the Cert issued (through web interface=20
localhost/certsrv) I can't export the private key. I can export it =
with the=20
CA as Binary Certificate but no private key is exported. When I =
import that=20
cert into the Personal storage then try to export from =
mmc/Certificates the=20
option for Personal Information Exchange export is greyed out, only=20
DER/Base-64/Cryptographic are available.

The only way I've been able to =
sucessfully make=20
certs on this SBS is throught the CEICW. But I need a wildcard and =
the=20
wizard won't let me do a *.mydomain.com.

What is the purpose of the =
cert?

Any reason its not being created =

Good=20
Morning Everyone,

I hope everyone is doing well =
today. =20
We're running SBS2003 SP1 w/ISA 2004.
I am trying to =
generate a=20
certificate request in IIS6 with the Wizard but it
doesn't =
allow me=20
to specify a template to be used so I am getting the =
error:

The=20
request contains no certificate template information. Denied by=20
Policy
Module 0x....
The request does not contain a =
certificate=20
template extension or the
Certificate Template request=20
attribute.

When I go into the CA and try to import the =
request, I=20
get the above error.
What is the proper way to generate a =
request in=20
IIS 6 for SBS2003? I don't
want to use the CEICW for =
this.  Or=20
is there a way to temporarily TURN OFF
the requirement of a =
template=20
with the CA?

Thanks!
Sincerely,
Anthony Smith
