ASP.NET version allows only 1.1.4322 or 2.0.50727

I have installed the .net 3 framework on my server. However, if I click the
drop down for ASP.NET version, my only choices are 1.1.4322 or 2.0.50727. I
expected to be able to select version 3. Is the .net framework independent
of the ASP.NET version? As I recall, installing .net 2 is what allowed me to
select version 2 so I expected a similar behavior this time. If I am
off-base, please excuse my ignorance.

3.0 is only an extension set of features for 2.0. 1.0., 1.1 and 2.0 are
'framework versions'
