US: Your democracy is in serious troubles
am 26.07.2007 18:14:25 von Volker BirkHi,
to all my US friends here:
Your President now can deprive the Congress and the Senate of power
after a "Catastrophic Emergency" like an environmental catastrophe
or a terrorist's attack. After that, the President is the only person,
who can decide going back to your constitution or not. And: after that,
the President's term of office is not limited in time any more.
This is exactly, what we call a dictatorship.
| The President shall lead the activities of the Federal Government for
| ensuring constitutional government.
Star Wars Episode 3, Mr. Bush? ;-)
A study of the Congressional Research Service (CRS) is sharing this
view:
| (The President) may seize property, organize and control the means of
| production, seize commodities, assign military forces abroad, institute
| martial law, seize and control all transportation and communication,
| regulate the operation of private enterprise, restrict travel, and, in a
| variety of ways, control the lives of United States citizens.
Peter DeFazio, member of the Homeland Security Committee, tried to find
out, what's behind this strange directive. His application for access to
the full text of the directive was denied.
In an interview with The Oregonian he makes his views clear:
| "We're talking about the continuity of the government of the United
| States of America," DeFazio says. "I would think that would be relevant
| to any member of Congress, let alone a member of the Homeland Security
| Committee."
| [...]
| "Maybe the people who think there's a conspiracy out there are right,"
| DeFazio said.
I just want you not being able to say "we didn't know" afterwards ;-)
Yours,
VB.
