Is PHP the right language for this application (described below)? If not, any suggestions?

Is PHP the right language for this application (described below)? If not, any suggestions?

Let me start off by saying "I'm not a programmer", although I do
understand the basic concepts. The question I have is two-fold. First,
which language should this application be written in (PHP, SQL, JS,
etc.)? Second, can anyone give me any pointers, or provide a price
quote for writing this? Please take a look at the details below if
you're interested.

In general: the application I'm looking for is similar to the
functionality of Postlets (www.postlets.com) / WebFlyer
(www.webflyer.com) - **read database info & create HTML code for
Craigslist**, but with a couple of differences. First, the datafeed to
other sites is not a necessity (although a nice extra); second, the
application *must* add some corporate / legal information to the
listing.

Any PHP/SQL/JS programmers out there, who would like an interesting
freelance project, with the potential to make some money? Please
contact me!

PHP and MySql would be fine

It depends on the feature list. I'd guess 50 to 100 hours at whatever
rate you can get.

Potential? I'm afraid I can't go shopping in a supermarket with the
potential to pay.

PHP will work fine, so will Java, Perl and several other languages. And
virtually any database - MySQL, PostGres, etc. will work.

Impossible to give a price without a lot more details. I don't even
give a fixed price for programming until the screen designs are
completed (not necessarily written), data requirements nailed down,
program flow defined... Without that, everything is my regular hourly
rate (including the design).

But from experience, I would say at least 150 hours. More likely would
be 300-500 hours or more. There's a fair amount of work there.

Sorry, I'm not a bank. I don't make loans.

Thanks for the info! Couple of things... 1st, what I meant by
"potential" is an offer to share the profits (business model is a
sound one) - thanks for pointing it out, I'll be clearer in my next
postings; 2, the link in your sig is dead (quoth the server, "404").

:)

(Top posting fixed)

If the business model is a sound one, you should have no trouble getting
financing from a bank or similar.

Nothing against your idea - but I'm with Geoff on this one. Good
programmers don't work on the promise of "future profits". They work
for cash because they like to eat.

If you want a good programmer, expect to pay the going rate, in cash -
not "future profits".
