WAS Performance Counter Problem

Please, Does any one know what is the problem with performance counter
in the MS was application.
i have tried to add one to it but it failes with the error message
""failed to load the performance counter from the computer \
\mymachinename".
however i can add it to the performance counter from windows
adminstrative tools.
i am using windows xp also?
plese can any one help
