Selected certificate was already installed to another server

I am trying to renew our SSL cert on the web server by clicking on the
‘Process pending certificate..’ option but it says that, ‘Selected
certificate was already installed to another server,…’. I have renamed the
certificate to .cer and double-click it to check that it is the valid
certificate. Kindly advise how should I renew or process this valid
certificate?

Can you please explain exactly what your setup is? and what you did prior to
receiving the message you are receiving?

After checking with my colleague, who has installed the cert, now I
understand that actually it was installed onto a wrong website. So, what I
need to do now is to reinstall it onto the correct website. But being new to
this installation, may I know if I could simply remove the cert from the
wrong website and redo the ‘Process pending certificate..’ option on the
correct website? Is this the correct steps to perform?

Remove the certificate from the incorrect website.

For the correct website:
Do *not* create a new certificate request. Merely specify to use an existing
certificate.

Certificates can be found in the machine certificate store:
Start -> Run -> MMC.exe -> add/remove snapin -> certificates -> machine
store -> local machine -> personal certificate store -> certificates node.

When you create a new cert request, it gets created under "pending cert
requests". When you import the resulting certificate from the CA, everything
is combined to become a certificate under the Personal Certificate Store
node.

All you need to do is tell IIS which website should use which certificate
that already exists in the store.
