Redirect from IIS server to Exchange Server
Redirect from IIS server to Exchange Server

I need to redirect from My IIS Server running XP, with IIS 5.1. To my
Exchange Server running Windows 2000 so that someone can access the email via
the web. My exchange on the web was working fine until I added the IIS
server and am hosting our own web site now the exchange access via the web
does not work... I have tried many different redirects and none seem to
work. For example: http://server/exchange and http:///exchange. The
exchange server has a different internal fixed IP address and am wonder if
there is any way to just forward to that IP address.

Hello,
First of all, i would recommend against using Windows XP as a webserver
because of its limitation of 10 concurrent connections.
What did you change that could break the web email? Installing IIS on a
separate machine does not affect Exchange and IIS on another machine. So
you must have changed something else?
Is it possible that you perhaps only have one public IP address, and this
IP address is assigned to the XP machine?
I think we need to know what you have done to get this problem before we
can give any help. Redirecting may not even be the right solution for the
problem (if you only have one external IP address, you cannot redirect to
a machine that is not accessible from Internet).

Yes the public address is now assigned to the Web Server and was assigned to
the exchange server. So sounds like redirection is out of the question. Do
you know how to access the exchange for the web with out redirection?

May i just ask, why don't you use IIS in Windows 2000 (the exhange server)
to host the website? The web access to emails are provided by IIS, so IIS
is already installed on that machine. And Windows 2000 Server supports
multiple websites. That would solve the limitation you have in Windows XP,
as well as the problem of having only one IP address but the need for two.
And another thing, if you just assigned the public IP address to the
Windows XP machine, and there is nothing else involved, you have probably
broken SMTP as well and nobody can send emails to you for the moment
(since the exchange server is not publicy available). In fact, all public
services being run on the exchange server is broken since it is no longer
publicy available.
If you want to keep this new website on a separate machine, you may want
to consider getting a second public IP address. I think that is the best
solution.
I have written about other suggestion in this article:
"One external IP, multiple webservers"

Re: Redirect from IIS server to Exchange Server

The reason I do not have the web on the exchange server is because of the
size of the web site and the size of my backup tape currently will not work.
The backup tape is too small that is another problem I am dealing with. We
do seem to be getting emails back and forth just can not access them via the
web wonder why that is possible? I do agree that I will most likely need to
host the web on a "true server" Microsoft 2000 or newer. I will look into
that. Possibly even upgrading the server we have so that the size will be
big enough for everything. Thank you for your help on this.
