Intranet Site Testing

Intranet Site Testing

am 27.08.2007 16:40:02 von Dusty

I am having problems accessing intranet test sites. Here's a break down:
I create a test site within IIS on Windows Server 2003
Assigned Host header vaule is test.servername or test.serverip
Directory browsing is enabled
Default Application
Web Service Extensions allowed: ASP, ASP.NET, WebDAV, FrontPage ext
I haven't done anything with Application Pools and I've stopped the Default
Web Site. Things weren't working with the Default web site was running.

On my WinXP workstation I modified the host file
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx test.servername

Will not work at all.

This same exact scenario works under windows 2000 server all day long.

Any Ideas?

TIA

Hello,

What does "does not work" mean? What is happening? What do you see in the
browser? Can you ping test.servername?

The described steps should work as far as i can see.

Can you ping test.servername?

Please disable "Show firendly http error messages" in your browser and
tell us the complete error messages.

Or better, use WFetch from the IIS 6 resource kit to see the complete
response.

You can also check the httperr log file here:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\HTTPERR

It may have useful information.

I can ping test.servername.

If I type http://test.servername, the resolve process is lengthy.
If I type http://test.serverip, page cannot be displyed is instant.

Message at bottom of screen for both scenarios above is "cannot find server
or DNS error"

I compared the permissions between the default website and my test site. I
made changes to the test site permissions to match the default website
permissions, but that didn't help.

It's a folder.

When you ping, does it resolve to the correct IP address?

Do you have a firewall installed on this machine?

Have you tried to access the website using the IP address of the machine
(such as 123.123.123.123)?

Firewall. That was the problem. Web Server (HTTP) needed to be allowed.
Thank you Kristofer for taking the time to help me solve this problem.
Everything works great now.

Thanks again.
