price difference, filemaker thinks europeans are rich ! ?

I would like to know why filemaker is only 299$ in the usa ( 218 euros )
and in France it is 571$ ( 417 Euros) in europe.
I am disgusted by such politics in pricing ( comparable to adobe ) that i
decided to buy a competitor product instead.
Pat.

The New Zealand price for standard FileMaker 9 is roughly US$350 (257
Euros). This is nothing new and has been going on ever since some
decided to market something in another country. It's usually cheaper
for me to import Mac software (and hardware) from Australia to New
Zealand rather than actually buy it here.

This isn't a Filemaker official company list, so your statements are
not likely to make a difference.
I recommend you express yourself directly to the Marketing department
at Filemaker USA. I too think the overseas pricing of all programs and
products is extreme. While some differences can be justified by the
smaller size of the support staff in foreign markets, it seems FM
prices just because they can.
In these days of cheap, easy worldwide communication, that seems based
on old reasons.

For non-English languages, there is the extra cost of translation as
well ... or at least that's one of Adobe's claims for doubling the
price of their software in Europe. Quite how they can justify the same
double-up for England seems to escape their notice - it doesn't take
that much work to correctly add the 'u' back to "colour", etc.

Pat, take the different European tax structures into account. In
Belgium, price ex. VAT = 349 EUR. This is, of course, a difference,
but given the fragmented european market it is not unreasonable in my
opinion.
