IIS6 and extranet topology setup guidance

Hello all,
Looking for some guidance here.
What I want to achieve is to have an IIS6 server setup in my DMZ that will
host an extranet site, this extranet site needs to get the connecting users
to authenticate to it before they are allow to access the content.
How is this best achieved should the IIS box be a domain member using AD
users to authenticate against or a stand alone server with local user
accounts to authenticate against.
Following on from the above question. What authentication is best to use
depending upon whether the IIS box is stand alone or a domain member???

Well, if all access is local only and not requirement for domain resources
access. it would be better and safer for local standalone auth, if domain
access require, then make it a member server.
