This is not a good idea. Viewers scroll top to botttom, not side to
side.

That said, create a div (or table) that is much wider than the screen
size.

Why on earth would you want to do such a thing? Horizontal scrolling to
read content is a terrible thing. You must hate your users, keyboard
users in particular.

Don't do it.

Look at CSS zen garden. They have a few horizontal layouts.

Your readers will miss the function of scroll-bar and middle mouse wheel
though. Unless it is essential, don't do it.

Try 'white-space:nowrap;' on a container.

Half lies are worth twice as much as whole lies.

Yea, put your content in a div and turn the scroll bars on using css.
It will scroll to the longest line.

A time line ?

A time line would normally be implemented as a table, so the page would
fairly automatically be "horizontal" and have a horizontal scroll bar.
That's more of a problem than of a solution, so the useful questions should
be whether the author should find a way to present the time line vertically.

Time as such is neither horizontal nor vertical; we just map the time
dimension to a spatial dimension, and this mapping can be performed in
different ways.

This sounds like a conversation I would have had back in the 70s while
partaking of the herb...
