FileMaker 9 Server problem -- Admin Console "limited"?

FileMaker 9 Server problem -- Admin Console "limited"?

So, I set up FileMaker Server 9 (on Mac OSX Server).

Install went OK. I can see my databases. During the install, I was
able to set up my backup schedule, etc...

Everything was fine -- until I rebooted the server.

The server *is* coming up at restart.

However, if I log into the admin console, I can't do anything.

I get a "Admin Console Functionality is limited to FileMaker Server
Overview".

Well, it sure is.

Even if I connect from a remote system -- I get the same message.

Yet, my server is serving my database files, so it's definately turned
on.

Anybody have any thoughts as to what I'm missing here?

No -- if I intentionally use a wrong password, I can't get into the
admin console.

It's not that.

I also found that I don't have to reboot to kill this. During the
install process, things work. If I quit the admin console, I can get
back in.

But if I *stop* the server -- either from the console or from rebooting
- I can't restart it through the console correctly.

Argh!

Resolved: FileMaker 9 Server problem -- Admin Console "limited"?

am 21.09.2007 22:08:44 von Steve Maser

So...

My problem (where I could log into to the Admin Console immediately
after install and modify things, but after rebooting I could log in,
but *not* modify anything because it said the Database Server wasn't
started and it was?) -- I found out what the bug is.

There's some kind of "character length" issue around the
account/password combination you set for the console app.

For example, my password that I was using has 27 (!) characters.

If I used the account "admin" and that 27-character password? I could
modify things with Console Admin -- even after rebooting.

Change the account name to "administratortwo" and keep the password?
No longer could I modify anything.

Uninstall and reinstall the program: Keep the account name as
"administratortwo", but set a *15* character password? Everything
worked.

There's some magic number (which I'm not going to waste time figuring
out) whereby if the login/password length is too long, then you can't
modify anything with Console admin (*or in the Terminal*!) after
rebooting, but you *can* immediately after installation.

I don't know if this is limited to the OSX version alone or is a
problem with the Windows version.
..

But I've been able to reproduce this on 3 machines now (and have
submitted this as a bug as it's not in the KB anywhere that I could
find.)

Just a heads up for anybody doing this.
