Editing Scrips in FM9

Editing Scrips in FM9

I am enjoying some of the new functionality in Version 9, but one thing
confounds me from a UI standpoint:

Is it possibly true that when I am editing a script step, the only way to
close that window is by journeying all the way to the top of the window and
clicking the X? No OK button...No Close...No keystroke...just the
mouse-centric and extremely tedious click on the little X?

That's going to grow old really quickly, so I hope that I have overlooked
something...

Well, Rick...you've started two threads today and in doing so have
pretty much covered my two biggest beefs with FM9.

Here are some shortcuts that might help, though I admit they still leave
a lot to be desired, as compared to previous versions.

While in ScriptMaker, you'll note that the menus change. On the Scripts
menu, you'll see some script-related commands and keyboard shortcuts.

Instead of an OK button, you can use CTRL-S to save the script and then
CTRL-W (or CTRL-F4) to close the script window. Unsaved script windows
will have an asterisk after the script name in the title bar.

Instead of a cancel button (or the easy-to-use keyboard escape key), you
can just use CTRL-W. But if you've made changes that you want to cancel
out of, you'll have to say 'no' to the questioning dialog.

Be very careful that you don't hit CTRL-W or CTRL-F4 too many times. I
have more than once accidentally closed my entire solution through my
lack of patience.

If you have multiple script windows open at once, you can close them all
with one click of the little 'x' while holding the CTRL-ALT keys.

Of course, if you have multiple script windows open at once, there is no
great way of either organizing them or of finding the specific one you
are looking for. This is why I typically choose to use the CTRL-W
whenever I can.

On a Mac the corresponding shortcuts are Cmd-S and Cmd-W

Also you can call up individual windows in the Window menu in the
Filemaker menu bar.

On Windows, only sort of. The Windows menu only lists up to 10 windows,
and they're not in any particular order.

I'm honored...I think...

Thanks for the shortcuts; they will indeed be preferable to the tiny X. I do
like the modelessness of the new scripting engine -- I just don't see how OK
and Cancel buttons, Enter and Esc keys seem to not belong in a modeless
interface.

Glad it's not just me...
