Bug?

Hello - I think I've spotted a bug, but just want some ideas in case its
just the way I'm doing something.

The file in question is a FM8.5 Pro Advanced created file (Windows XP Pro)
and run through the web publishing engine on a FM Server 8.0v4 on Mac OS X.

The problem is with a tabbed area within a tabbed area.

When I click on one of the inner tabs through a webpage (and I've tried on
both IE7 and FF), the wrong tab comes up - it jumps to one of the outer
tabs.

When I click back on the outer tab I started from (the one with the inner
tab), the inner tab has switched over to the correct one I was originally
intending to go to.

Then when I click on one of the other inner tabs I haven't yet visited, the
same happens again.

Once all the inner tabs have all been visited by going through the above
process, the problem goes away for the rest of the session.

I have replicated this on 3 seperate Windows XP Pro machines.

Am I doing something wrong in the design of this page, or is this quite
simply a bug?

Thanks for any useful help!

Make sure that in layout mode you have the default TAB activated before you
go back into browse mode. Do this for all layers ending with first tab
inside first tab. And although filemaker allows creating many tabs inside
many other tabs I think this is bad practice and I would look into other
possible solutions. Like creating multiple instances of the same layout,
changing just the parts you need for that layout and then creating a
navigation system.

Thanks for the help. I redesigned it slightly so there's no inner tab now
and checked there is a default tab on all tabs.

However, now even when I flick from one particular tab to another particular
tab, it still jumps to the wrong tab - yet all other tab combinations work.
The wrong tab it jumps to is not the default tab. This problem seems to only
happen in the web version - the desktop database works fine between the two
troublesome tabs, which I'm really beginning to think must now be a bug -
unless you or perhaps anyone else has any other ideas?

Lets make sure, You have a tab-object on your layout with a couple of tabs.
When the first is active and you want to go to the second you will click on
the second. But when you clik on the second it will open the third. I have
never ever experienced such a thing and I do use tabobjects. Would you be
willing to send me and example? (just an empty file that displays this
behaviour would do it...)

That's correct (although strictly speaking, when it happens, the tab jumped
to by mistake is always the last one).

Thank you for your kind offer, but the boss says No - sorry! - I did
however copy the tab control object to a new empty database and hosted it
through web publishing and didn't have any problem with it. So it just seems
to be a problem where it is.

I appreciate its hard to see without looking for yourself, but the issue
really only revolves around the tabcontrol and it not being able to jump to
the correct one.

I wonder if its because of the other elements on each tab? For example, on
three of the tabs there are portals, on another there's a drop-down field,
etc, maybe its a certain combination of elements on tabs creating a unique
bug somehow?

Perhaps there are some objects on the last tab (on the top part that really
forms the tab) that is sticking across to its neighbor. If you copied just
the tabobject that just could be the case. Since you don't seem to have the
jump-trouble going to the first tab. It might be something invisible there,
So go into layout mode, active the last tab. Do an Activate All Objects. And
look very very carefully for any black dots (the corners of objects) that
don't belong there. You might also try to rebuilt the entire layout (if it
is not to complex) and after every object you have added try the tab. This
might be a lot of work, but also might just solve this puzzle.
