direct draw errors

I am running xp service pk2. I am receiving error 587 when playing a game.
Have reinstalled directx and message no errors are found. When running direct
x trouble shooter i see (!) against some of the files- cannot not get help
form the help command. I also receive system/windows 32 error when booting
system. And a message reads your system has recovered from a serious error..
Where to I find a solution to these problems? Or is there a download patch
that could be of assistance.
