web sites can be access in localhost only, not even on LAN
web sites can be access in localhost only, not even on LAN
am 03.10.2007 21:24:09 von Sunny
Hi all,
First, I am using Vista Ultimate and have IIS 7 setup already.
I can access the IIS Default startup page though http://localhost/ with no
problem, however, it doesn't work when I try to access it through LAN
(http://ipaddress/).
There is no error in the EventLog and when I try to access through LAN, IE
just says "Opening page http://ipaddress/..." and then shows the "The page
cannot be display" message.
I have tried quite a few things already, but none of them seems to be the
fix.
I'm new to Vista as well as IIS 7 so I am not at all sure whether it is
something that I have missed or it is due to some internal error.
Could any one kindly list out the key steps required to expose a very simple
web page (even just the IIS startup page) to the LAN?
Thanks in advanced :)

Do you have a firewall on the machine that could be blocking port 80?

The firewall is the Vista built-in one... and i have tried adding port 80 to
the exception list... and also even turning the firewall off... but both
still don't work... i'm going crazy...

You sure the firewall is off ? can you ping vista from remote machine?
can you do a 'telnet vistaip 80' ? what do you get?

double check your firewall at both end

I have just checked using 'netstat -ano'
the only process that is listening to port 80 is System (NT Kernel & System)

huh? can you use process explorer to dig inside the process id binding to
port 80?
when you telnet to port 80, just hit some chars and hit many times enter key
do you see http 400 bad request response from IIS ? if not, then something
else is using port 80.. and it does not speak http protocol.

yeah... that's what i did... the PID is 4 and it's actually the System (NT

and when i telnet port 80 (locally) i can see 400 bad request... however
through the other machine on LAN...
another thing is that i do think i have turned off the firewall already...
well... at least that's what i can tell so far...

Oh well, try wfetch... put in the server name or ip then post the result
here.
http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?id=284285
if connection can't be established. something is blocking. do you have ipsec
or any other firewall, router access list, etc ?
