Bug in ActivePerl 5.8.8 build 822?
Bug in ActivePerl 5.8.8 build 822?
am 05.10.2007 18:35:17 von Octavian Rasnita
Hi,
I have tried using ActivePerl 5.8.8 build 822 under Windows XP Pro SP2 with
Apache 2.2.4 with and without SSL.
Sometimes when using a mod_perl 2.0.3 application the web server gave an
error when trying to start it and if the application was more complex the
percent of insuccesses was bigger.
If I tried to use a Catalyst application, very rarely the web server could
start and work.
I've installed ActivePerl 5.8.8 build 820, and everything works fine.
Is there a bug in ActivePerl 5.8.8 build 822, or it just cannot work well
with the following configuration?
Intel Core 2 DUO 3 GHz, 2 GB RAM at 1066 MHz, Assus motherboard with an
Intel chipset, NVidia video card, Creative SB X-FI XtremeGamer sound card,
SATA 2 hard disk with 10000 RPM, IDE hard disk, TV tunner, CD/DVD writer
I would like to use ActivePerl 5.8.8 build 822 because more useful modules
are installed and updated, and I won't need to see those cpan shell errors
when trying to install some of them in an older perl.
Thank you.
Octavian

I have run into similiar behavior. We have a web application that we
have developed. When running under build 822, it just errors out, but
works just fine under build 820 and earlier version.

Outside of the differences in core modules, are the same
versions of modules being used with both ActivePerl 820
and 822?
Is it possible to reduce the problem to a minimal version?
If so, and if it's mod_perl specific, it's probably best
to do this on the mod_perl mailing list.

Well, I don't know if it is mod_perl specific, because mod_perl works with
ActivePerl built 820 but not with 822.
If you say that there are no many differences between 820 and 822, I can use
with no problem the built 820, but I am still curious to know why this
happends, because on some machines mod_perl and ActivePerl 822 work.
