How do you create a sub-web on IIS bundled with Vista

How do you create a sub-web on IIS bundled with Vista

am 10.10.2007 22:58:17 von Bob

I have just purchased a computer with Vista Home Premium. All Internet
Information Server components are installed. I am also using Microsoft
Expression Web. On my old XP computer with FrontPage, I was able to easily
create a sub-web off of the c:\inetpub\wwwroot folder using either the
computer name or localhost and publishing with FrontPage Extensions. If I
try doing that with Expression Web, I immediately receive the error saying
FrontPage extensions not installed or available. Any suggestions?

There are no extensions available for Vista. However, there is a beta, but
use it at your own risk. Many report they cannot get it to work properly,
and it will cause serious issues with the computer.

FrontPage Server Extensions (FPSE) for IIS7 (beta) released

"I'm pleased to announce that we have released a beta version of the FPSE
extensions for IIS7. We partnered together with Ready-to-Run Software to
update the FPSE extensions to enable them to work with IIS7 on Windows Vista
as well as the latest Longhorn Server Beta 3 release.

You can download the beta release from IIS.NET's DownloadCenter here:

Publishing Forum on IIS.NET forums for questions and answers related to FPSE
on IIS7."

EW will see the sites as being in c:\inetpub\wwwroot\xxxx (and will not see
http://localhost) but if you go to IIS manager and convert them to
applications (navigate to the site under 'default web site' then right-click
and 'convert to application') you can then preview in IIS as noted in the
thread above.

When you create a new web in EW you can opt to create it as
c:\inetpub\wwwroot\ new_web_name' and this will become the default (selected
under 'Website' when opening a web).
