OT: Domain name and sub domain name to different servers
am 14.10.2007 09:35:49 von Catherine
Hi, firstly, I apologize in advance if this is way off topic but I
figured that someone here may be able to help me or point me in the
right direction.
I have two websites which are hosted on two different servers. The
main website will use www.mydomain.com as it's domain whilst the
secondary website (It's a shop) will use shop.mydomain.com as it's
domain name.
What I thought I should be able to do is use my domain name registrars
name servers to resolve the domain name (I'm using GoDaddy.com) and
then add an A Record which points to the IP address of the nameserver
where the main domain is held. Then I thought I could add a wildcard A
Record which points to the nameserver of where the shop webiste will
be hosted.
So far, the main domain is working fine but the subdomain, whilst
being resolved is not getting relocated to the folder where the shop
files are.
If I ping the subdomain name, it does in fact resolve to the
nameserver of the company who is hosting the shop files but I seem to
be missing something as a final step.
Thanks for any/ all help
Kate

You say that the subdomain resolves to the name server. It should resolve
to the web server, unless the name server and web server are the same
machine.
