[Rumour] FileMaker Mobile killed off??

[Rumour] FileMaker Mobile killed off??

From ThinkSecret.com ...

iPhone, others take the wind out of FileMaker Mobile
----------------------------------------------------
Apple subsidiary FileMaker will be killing off its FileMaker
Mobile product in next week, sources report. FileMaker Mobile 8,
which is compatible with the newest FileMaker 9 software, allows
Palm OS, PocketPC, and Windows Mobile devices to communicate
with FileMaker databases.

Sources report the proliferation of Web-ready phones, like the
iPhone, led FileMaker to abandon development of the specific
Mobile version of its software. Any device with a full Web
browser can access FileMaker databases.

FileMaker will continue to sell FileMaker Mobile 8 until the end
of the year and will support the software until the middle of
2008 but will no longer update the software.

Seems a little silly - what about those people who want their own
databases on their mobile phones / PDAs without the cost of sticking
them on a webserver?? :o\

If you need a local database access on a handheld there are 3rd party
solutions that are just as capable, if not more cable in the same
price range.

They lack a little of the FM integration, but in my opinion, they're
more powerful in general, and getting data into and out of FM Pro has
certainly gotten easier lately, so the one 'integration' advantage fm
mobile had has been eroded.

Apple never "lost" FileMaker Inc. - it is a separate company in terms
of finances, etc., but is 100% owned by Apple.
