Download mails safely on customer"s PC

We work mostly at customer site on their PCs
and we have a webmail but it is exploding in size.

We'd like to download all the old mails
onto the customers' PC
in a very secure ant encrypted way
so that they won't be read by anyone else but us.

It also needs to be fairly easy and quick to retrieve the encrypted
mails when needed.

Any hint or product ?

If you have webmail, you obviously have access to pop3/imap, use that
protocol, but.... this is not sendmail related, so you should be
asking elsewhere, its also amazing what can happen if you enter things
like this into Google, it is after all one of the things its there
for :)
