FileMaker vs. Access

I am a FileMaker developer and have been since Version 5.0... that
long.
FileMaker 9.0 has promised to hook up to SQL server and MySQL
databases. When I hook up I can not upload pictures just text and
numbers. There is a web page http://www.frontendsolutions.ca that
shows it uploading pictures. Can Access upload pictures to a SQL
server database running on the Web?
Thank you.

Access with a split Jet DB Engine database (the default engine) can
successfully be run on a LAN, with proper design, an Access client
application can access an ODBC-compliant server DB over a WAN. Access is
not a browser or web client, except for "Data Access Pages" which are
deprecated in Access 2007 -- they were never very successful, and most would
only consider using them on an intranet, not the Internet.
So, I think the answer to your question is "no", certainly not as a normal
use... it would require jumping through some hoops.

Access is a front-end gui. By default it uses DAO to attach to a JET
or ACE databases. It also can use ODBC or ADO (sometimes within VBA)
to connect to Databases created by or living within other Database
Engines. The capable Access developer/programmer can do, within
Access, almost anything that can be done on a computer or network. The
inexperienced often can not do as much.
I can use Access to upload blobs to a an Internet Enabled SQL Server
db. Would I use Access to do so? Probably not. If I don't need the
Slick Gui, I seldom use Access.
I use Filemaker Pro only to upload Cartoons.
I fail to see the advantage of the ideas put forward on the web page
you mention. If we are to show pictures, why not just upload the files
and reference them appropriately? A byte is a byte is a byte. And yes,
we could upload the files with Access.
