bios does not recognize hard drive

itried to install xp home edition . everything was loading ok untill eror
message that os couldnot find hard disk drive. upon opening bios it shows my
cd drive as primary and my dvd drive as slave , in device manager it shows
ITE Disk Array 0 SCSI Disk Device as my Disk drive. the reason for trying to
reinstall xp was because of a previous problem which i solved through a
solution from this forum but i was surprised that my pc is running even
without the bios not recognizing the hard drive. any suggestions as to how
to get the bios to recognize the hard drive. or do i not do anything since
everything is running ok?? i hope im posting this to the right discussion
group.

Your pc is not running OK. It may give you that impression, perhaps because
info is being read into memory from the CD but it's impossible to say.
You need to enter the SetUp program and set the options particularly the
Boot priorities. The set up menus should be self-explanatory but if not you
need to consult the manual that came with your machine.
If that is not possible there is usually a setting which allows things to be
set to Factory defaults. Try that.

Further to my last - I've just noticed you refer to a SCSI drive. It may be
that you need to install an additional driver when you try to re-install.
IMO SCSI drives don't really go with Home editions of XP. Do try and get the
machine documentation.
