Open FM-Application on mounted server-drive

Hi
I migrate a FM6 database to Filemaker 8.5.
When I open a filemaker-application on a mounted server-drive, comes up
the message, that this is a shared file and I have to confirm the
opening of every file ("Open whitout Sharing" or "Open") used by this
application. This is very exhausting - In my opinion, there was not the
same behavior in FM6.
I read from the possibility to open the application locally on the
server and then to "Remote open" the application from the clients. But
there has to be Filemaker installed on the server and always running,
isn't it?
Is there another posibility to share a FM database on a server-drive?
There is working always one person with the application, but from
different places!
Thanks,

As you've just said, you are not supposed to Open files across a
network, and so newer versions of FileMaker apparently warn you against
doing it.
You are meant to either:
- store files locally (ie. on the same computer they will
be opened on)
or
- use FileMaker Server (or Advanced or whatever it's called
these days) to host files on a network server and then use
then use the "Hosts" button to connect to the served files.
(you can use normal FileMaker to host the files on a normal
computer if there are only a few users, but obviously that
computer needs to be on and running FileMaker and the
database for other people to be able to connect to it).
or
- use FileMaker or FileMaker Server to host the files on ONE
computer and use the web browser to access the database.

Technically you could copy the files from the "server-drive" to the
local computer, open the files and use the database, Quit Filemaker and
then copy the files back to the "server-drive". This could be automated
by things like AppleScript ... BUT it would be an awful kludge to use
and would require more work to make sure nobody else tries to use the
"server-drive" files while you are using them locally.

you do not need a copy of FMP on the server, just FMS/FMSA
Local (client) computers each need a copy of FMP, then use remote
login, to access the files being served.
The 'only' reason to have a copy of FMP on the server, is to allow
shutdown of the FMS, and working on a FM database, directly on the server
If FMP is being used to share (cf. serve) files, rather than FMS, then
the files must be open, in order to be accessible via open remote from
clients
