IIS 6.0 cals

IIS 6.0 cals

Hello,

I am a little confused with Cals, of course you need to purchase the server
2003 standard comes with IIS, however does it come witih 6.0? does it require
a user cal? more importantly, if I am going to make a intranet and also an
internet site, do I only need to purchase the cals that users are going to
be accessing the server internally on the network (i would assume yes but
making sure)? lets say I have 60 users, do i need to purchase 60 cals for IIS
6.0 and 60 cals for server 03?

Thank you

Get Windows 2003 IIS Web Server edition.
IIS can be configured, to use the accounts from the domain server.

Yes, cals are a nasty thing to understand, but I don't think you need 60
cals for IIS.

Hi,

You do not need to purchase any separate CALs for IIS. Regular Windows
Server 2003 CALs are sufficient.

You need to purchase CALs for authenticated access, not for anonymous user
access.

You can either purchase CALs per server (i.e. 1 CAL for each concurrently
authenticated user), or you can purchase CALs per user/per device (where a
CAL is purchased for each user, or client device, in your organisation, but
that client can access any Windows Server 2003 machine within your org). If
you already have per client or per device CALs, you do not need to buy any
additional CALs for your new IIS 6.0 intranet.

Cheers
Ken
