Windows XP, I've downloaded the msi installer (PHP 5.2.5 installer
[20,521Kb] - 08 November 2007) from three different mirrors, MD5 is ok.
The installation fails with error 2878.
Any ideas?

I got the same problem - just use the 5.2.4 installer or the zip file.

I finally did use the zip file. But configuring the php and apache
config files is not for the faint of heart.

Ed,
Very true. But once you get over the hump, it's much easier.
I recommend you install XAMP or WAMP to get you started, then modify it
as you need to.
