install old version of Access
install old version of Access
am 15.11.2007 16:37:06 von jan
Hi:
WHen I bought my new computer I only installed A97 and A2003, since
those are the versions I use. However, a utility I depend on
(SpeedFerret) requires an interim version (A2k or AXP) in order for it
to work. Apparently I can install A2k and not use it; but it must be
installed for the utility to work.
Question is, how do I safely install A2k or AXP now, without messing up
my normal use of A2003?
Thanks.
Jan

Install it into different folders. And otherwise you'll be fine.

Thanks. It doesn't screw up the registry or anything?

No, because MS use registry keys with the different version number in them, that is
Access 97 settings are in a registry key with 9.0 in there somewhere.
Now that you will find is that if you click on the MDB Access will call up the last
version of Access that you executed.
You need to add explicit path and file names of the appropriate versions of access to
all the shortcuts. For example "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office
97\Office\msaccess.exe". Including the quotes if you have any spaces in the path
name which is very likely.
There are some programs out there which will automatically start the appropriate
version of Access.
ACCVER - Allows you to work with multiple versions of MS Access databases. Detects
the version of Access used to create your MDB, MDE or MDA files and either reports
the version number or starts the appropriate version of MS Access.
