IIS 6 reference book

IIS 6 reference book

Anyone got a personal recommendation for an IIS 6 reference book. We pretty
much know I way around it all but feel like we should know more about how it
all works under the hood.

Thanks, Rob.

The resource kit and msdn probably has most in-deep information. But the
book i have used most besides that documentation is IIS 6 Administration by
Mitch Tulloch.

I suggest reading "IIS6 Technical Reference" from this URL:
http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/10135 f7a-144b-4ec6-9ad0-d6d441e50bd01033.mspx?mfr=true

It is technical information written by the IIS team members
responsible for each of the features, intending for showing how it all
works under the hood.

When you outgrow the basic technical information and want a more
detailed and cohesive end-to-end view of IIS request processing and
extensibility, the nuances of why something works this way but not
that way and how it all works together, then I would recommend my blog

Hi Rob,

I'd like to recommend IIS6 reskit which covers very comprehensive info on
all IIS concerned topics.

Problem with that is that it's all over the place in lots of little pages. I
wanted something to sit with my feet up reading. Much as I'm a net junkie, I
still like the tree based alternative... :-)

Cheers, Rob.

Yup that's the one where I got bored with clicking forwards and backwards

Thanks for the link.

Okay, okay, I get the message - it's in the resource kit :-) But I still
would like something like the Windows 2003 Server Inside Out book which is
absolutely excellent at providing a background into *why* something works
the way it does.

Cheers, Rob.

If you like the IIS 6 Resource Kit, but still want a book, you can purchase
the printed one.

I believe there is a download from MSDN where you get all those pages
in the form of a dozen massive Word document files, so no more
clicking links. At least, that was the original form which we typed up
the data, that then got translated into web pages with links.
