The docs say there is an "external filter" option that can be used in
..htaccess / mod_rewrite

can anyone point me at a tutorial or more information on this please?

thank you

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/en/mod/mod_ext_filter.html
If you don't know how to implement a filter of your own, chances are
you don't need one.

What a strange philosophy.
Its a good thing I know how to manufacture oxygen.... And trousers -
thank god I know how to make trousers - I mean - THINK what would happen
if I let THAT monster flap about in the wind - all the girls would faint
at the very sight of it...

Now - anyone know how to make a computer? ... no never mind - chances are
I don't need one...

;-)

Spoken like a true consumer, nice response though :)! Apache already
provides the belt, braces, and trousers with built in cod piece, the
oxygen, nitrogen and so on... Apache also allows you to create your
own mix of gases for any deep under the hood diving, and then switch
off the normal supply. It doesn't hand hold you there though. You need
to supply your own trousers and air at that point, and in the right
order.
Just because you /can/ mix gases and turn off the normal supply
doesn't mean you need to, a little knowledge, it would be like asking
how to compile Apache just so you can get that server header to go
away, there might be another way!
