table linking to .prn file error !help!

Hi, I am running Access2002.
I have to support a legacy Access database that has a linked table to
a .prn file
On one machine a vba routine can open and manipute the linked table.
On another machine an error is generated with the following message
Cannot Update. Database or Object is read only
Trying to replicate linking the table has been a problem also as there
is no option to link to .prn files
Any ideas?
