http://localhost is fast but http://machinename is slow?

Hi all, I'm just getting started with II7 on Vista -- and this is a
new/clean box.
I've noticed that when I open a local URL with http://machinename/path/file.html
IIS is very slow to respond, whereas if I use http://localhost/path/file.html
it's perfectly fast.
I've also noticed that if I disable Windows Firewall, http://machinename/path/file.html
URLs then become perfectly fast.
With IE7 (and Windows Firewall on) the first request is slow, but then
subsequnet requests seem fast (however, there also seems to be some
sort of timeout, and then it becomes slow again). With Firefox, each
request is slow.
Any tips? Thanks! -Scott

Is anybody here running IIS7 on Vista?
If so, could you perhaps try opening a http://machine_name/ URL
(obviously, using your local machine name -- and Windows Firewall on).
Is that oddly slow for you too?
(thanks)

Yes, it is sometimes slow... even to the point of abandonig session
(as if the page were unavailable). I've been playing with the firewall
settings but there is no significative difference between using
Windows firewall, no firewall or a third party product. The result is
that most of the time the connection time is fast, but the rest is
slooooooow. I had given up trying to explain this excentricity and
hoping SP1 will solve it...
